Coldwater baselayers - A cheaper alternative?

In my ongoing quest to make my diving as comfortable as possible I’ve been looking at putting some extra thermal protection underneath my O-Three dry suit, especially for the cold deep bits of the UK.

I know a lot of people who rave about their new 4th elemement or PBB base layer but I think I’ve found something that’s the same and will save a few pennies for nitrox fills.

Last week I tried out a wicking base layer from Millets which cost me twelve pounds for the long sleeve top. This was the only part I needed as my legs are fine but my elbows and lower arms were getting really cold on a dive - hence the reason for the top part alone.

2 dives later in the frigid waters of Dosthill, six degrees for 1 hour each, I was still toasty in my thermals and Millets top. This is one thing I definitely recommend.
